An iPad3 with a higher resolution screen and other upgrades likely will be released next month, but traders say the latest surge in Apple (AAPL +1.9%) shares - which closed above $500 for the first time - stems from the growing consensus that it will declare a dividend or even split shares at the Feb. 23 shareholder meeting. But when investors previously have raised such hopes, they've been left at the altar.

The iPad 3, iPhone 5, and Apple iVision are already priced into the shares. There is a lack of sellers, causing low share supply, driving up share prices. The dividend would need to be almost equal to the earnings per share in order to make up the difference of the run-up of share prices. There has been an over 3% gain since last Friday; do investors seriously expect better than a 3% dividend?

Well, good now know I when the top will be in on the NASDAQ. Give me some disappointment in AAPL and the NASDAQ will tumble down it's MA's that are well below their current levels.

Apple has rallied because of PE compression and earnings projections being raised continuously for FY 2012 and 2013. Even at 500 people I talk to rightly think AAPL is cheap and do not want to sell out. I dont see this selling out atleast until April 2012.

Now I am really nervous. If "the Street" is pumping this then I would guess there are a bunch of them sitting on the short side of this thing. If no dividend Feb 23 then .... Not good.

The decision may be driven by Steve Jobs estate.

I do not believe aapl is priced for perfection. It has been undervalued on a "fundamental" basis for a long time now....compounded by the "miss" (that really wasn't one) the prior quarter. The current run-up is the result of the "technical" analysis realizing that this was a major "miss" by the investment community in properly valuing this company. Now everyone's in "catch-up" mode. The stock has "room to run" in my humble opinion.

Same comments I heard at $200 that made me a scaredecat. Nobody can keep up with everything going on right now, China sells 30 days of product first day, otherwise why would Apple wait 30 days to reopen? 4S. If you don't have that or an IPhone 4 office workers snicker. IPad on Air Force jets, people have no clue - tip of a big Iceberg! This whole APPL board is about people being mad they missed the last 12% in two weeks run, don't wait, stock going to 650 post shareholders meeting when they see the new superstar - Tim Cook - dazzle them! Check my record before you bohoo me. I have been a bull since $335 last May.

No worms in Apple, it's sweet to the core. Bought shs at $50..sold all at $89. Bought back in avg $211 and will not sell!. I am a commercial pilot and when I saw other companies adopt the iPad for their IFR approach plates, etc, I bought more stock. I finally bought my first Apple product, an iPhone, wow incredible. I can do all my preflght planning, get a weather briefing and file a flight plan. I get NEXRAD radar, terminal forecasts and NOTAMS. I just bought a Mac Book Pro and will never go back to a PC. Apple products are beautifully made and great to use.
Now I hear about a new phone and a smaller iPad. I will be a buyer of both. When Apple TV comes out, my Sony Bravia is history.

When the lawyers in Washington think Apple is rich enough they'll claim its anti-competitive and talk about breaking it up. At least until Apple pays them off with a few hundred million.
