EA halting projects due to Battlefield 4 issues, shares tumble

  • With complaints about bugs and connectivity issues piling up for Electronics Arts' (EA -7.3%) recently-launched Battlefield 4, EA's DICE unit (responsible for developing the game) is halting the release of additional Battlefield 4 expansion packs, and is also stopping work on all "future projects," until the game's issues are sorted out.
  • EA investors aren't responding well to the news. Without healthy sales of Battlefield 4 and its $50 premium service, EA could struggle to hit its Dec. quarter forecasts. Moreover, DICE's project halts could delay the release of two anticipated titles: Star Wars: Battlefront (due in 2015) and Mirror's Edge 2 (due in 2015/2016).
  • Activision (ATVI -2%), whose mainstay Call of Duty franchise is the top rival to EA's Battlefield franchise, is also selling off.

The game is super fun, but the bugs and crashes are annoying, I'm still playing but I stop typically after 2-4 crashes..

Battlefield has a history of bugs and lagging issue. I played bf2&bf3 same issues, it's nothing. They always resolve it and players will still play...maybe bitch more but they won't return it.

its obvious people won't return it, its about the next iteration will they lose some fans to other similar games. I didn't play any of the other BF's and I likely won't buy the next one due to this experience. And if I do decide to buy the next it'll be after it's marked down considerably.

That's what you say now, but in a few months when they fix bugs and the game is smooth.....you will be buying the next iteration. I know these games are addictive. I had to quit. Spent way too much time playing them. They are really fun to play once they fix issues.

I haven't been a FPS player since high school (10+ years) I only tried BF4 out of boredom... in other words its a last resort kinda game for me... don't think i'll be buying the next one on release but probably a bargain bin buy...

My opinion is the game wasn't ready for release not sure how it made it out... but it is a fun game to play to kill some time.

I felt that way when BF2 & BF3 came out. Players are mad now but they have short memories and will be in line to pick up BF5. Even with the issues you still think it is fun! It will get better ask the vets on the game.

Glad I bought Take Two over EA, ATVI.

I might add ATVI if drops lower, but would never consider buying EA stocks unless it pays big dividends

BF4 is the most amazing and realistic game available. The two second best first person shooters at this moment, COD Ghosts (ATVI) and Borderlands 2 (T TWO), feel superficial and hollow as compared to BF4.

Although I experienced almost no bugs on my PC playing BF4, child diseases of such a game in a complex multiplayer environment is nothing but normal. Al this mourning about connection issues are greatly exaggerated by Wall Street press and its so called game sites. As such, today was a great opportunity to buy a company forecasting 70%+ gross margins.

BF4 is by a giant leap the best and most realistic game out there, even compared with BF3. However the way EA is handling the problems with BF4 right now is the good sign they are on top of things.

If its greatly exaggerated why has the company said they are halting future projects to fix it?

    @ Wigit5

EA is not halting their future projects. It is DICE which is halted by EA on its future projects, which at the moment are BF4 expansion packs and Star Wars Battlefront. It is only logical DICE is focusing on the existing problems before moving on to the next BF4 expansion pack.

Second, I play the game (on PC) since it was released and I never did encounter annoying problems. I had to restart Origin only a few times, of which two times was to install a new patch, but these restarts also happened with BF3.

I play on the PC and still have crashes, audio bugs, the server crashes have all but ceased but there are still tons of client to server connection issues. I have experienced a high of 15+ players being dropped from a single game (on the large 64/64 servers).

Which ever it is Dice/EA its still an admission that there are serious problems. You aren't the only one to say they haven't had any issues but the company obviously has clear evidence of population wide issues.

It's still a great game and mostly playable if your okay with losing all your stats for a game every once in a while.

May I suggest, you to get yourself a better PC.
How about an Intel i7 4930, some 32Gb DDR3 of RAM and an AMD R9 920X GPU? You will be singing another song then, I'm sure :)

We expect TTWO, a relatively small cap, should gain significant leverage off the publicity alone.
