iRobot higher following upgrade

  • Shares of iRobot (IRBT +5.5%) march higher after boutique research firm Sidoti upgrades shares to a Buy rating.
  • The purchase of Boston Dynamics by Google over the weekend has also boosted sentiment. Though the two robot players are markedly different, the profile of the broad robot sector has been improved following Google's investment.

Are there any pure robot plays besides IRBT and ADEP?

What I mean by robot is a business that makes movable machines (or their critical parts) which can do chores humans currently do. Like a machine that picks crops from the farm fields or that runs around the warehouse getting things. It seems from the videos that we have both the movable robotic devices and the robot arms that can grab and move things and the software engineering people that can put it together and make it happen.

It seems to me that this is an industry ready to take off but it is hard to find pure play robotic companies. Most of the work seems to be buried in research at places like tractor companies and now Google.

    Any ideas?

Another pure play in robotics is Fanuc. They specialize in the more traditional factory automation (artesian) style robots typically employed in the auto, packaging, and assembly operations.

Another emerging application space is in agriculture....however, the companies I have identified in that space are in the seed stage (no pun intended).... Feel free to contact me at mktpro2002@aol.com for their names.
