Boeing gets big 777 order from Hong Kong-based carrier

Cathay Pacific is set to purchase 21 777-9Xs from Boeing (BA +1.3%) in a deal worth around $7.5B.

The deal represents an expansion of BA's market for the new 777 variant and is "a vote of confidence in the model," one analyst quoted by Bloomberg says.

In other BA news, FedEx (FDX +1.3%) is deferring the purchase of 11 777 freighter jets but will buy two additional 767 freighters.

My unscientific observation has been, the pacific rim airlines have been more loyal to Boeing than US carriers.
