GM's China JV to recall 1.46M vehicles

General Motors' (GM) joint venture in China with SAIC Motor, Shanghai General Motors, will recall 1.46M vehicles in order to replace a bracket that secures a fuel pump.

The bracket is at risk of cracking, which, in extreme cases, could cause a fuel leak.

Around 1.22M Buick cars and 243,000 Chevrolets are affected.

The recall is the second for GM in China this year; in May, it recalled 2.65M imported Cadillacs.

Didn't realize that GM exported 2.65 million Made in USA Cadillacs to the China market in the past recent years. Good job. How many did they sell in Japan? I recall less than 1000 a year.

Where is the fuel pump in those Buicks? I have a Regal, its electric fuel pump is inside the tank, and its "bracket" is the same that hold the fuel level sensor (a float) and the steel fuel lines, so a broken "bracket" will not cause a leak, but may cause a noisy racket when I drive it

I know China is a big country, but I have a little trouble with the numbers on the Cadillacs and Buicks. Those figures deserve to be confirmed.

The agency said the recall affects 1.2 million Buick Excelles made from 2006 through part of 2012 and 250,000 Chevrolet Sails produced between April 2009 and October 2011 and some made last year.
