Frozen is a winner for Disney

Disney (DIS -0.3%) movie Frozen will pass the $500M mark in global box office sales this weekend as the animated film continues to show strength.

Management at the studio outfoxed rivals with the timing of the release as the slate of holiday films skewed toward mature audiences and left Frozen in the clear to rake in family audiences.

What to watch: Analysts think Disney's FQ1 could get a lift from Frozen's out-performance and set it up down the road. The sustained strong response at the box office and a top CinemaScore rating from moviegoers are both indications that Frozen-related sales in consumer products and DVD/steaming will be stoked up by the Disney machine.
