Decision day approaches for DirecTV over NFL package

DirecTV (DTV) will need to decide soon if it will sign a new contract with the NFL to carry the Sunday Ticket package of games.

Though the service has been a major success for the company, the estimated cost for the 2015 season is a 40% increase to a whopping $1.4B.

The big increase is a bitter pill for DirecTV to swallow with the NFL's own network offering a RedZone package which takes a little bit of the allure away from Sunday Ticket to consumers.

What to watch: Media analysts are interested in which direction DirecTV chooses to go, but what it might even more captivating is what company might be bidding against it. A NFL package on an online TV service from the likes of Sony, Google, Intel, or other player would be quite the wildcard.
