Futures post slim gain; Nikkei tumbles to start 2014

Stock index futures are slightly in the green as the world truly starts to get back to work following the New Year.

Europe's marginally ahead, but Asia had a rough session, with the Nikkei off 2.4% in its first trading day of the year and Shanghai down 1.8%.

The 10-year Treasury yield is off one basis point to 2.99%, and gold is flat after getting of to a big start to 2014 in two thin sessions last week.
