Monsanto earns two analyst target price hikes but shares stay flat

Monsanto (MON +0.1%) is enjoying some analyst love ahead of its Jan. 8 earnings report, as Susquehanna's Don Carson raises his target price on the shares to $145 from $128 and Morgan Stanley lifts its target to a Street-high $150 on "positive seed dynamics" with a bull case target of $200/share.

Carson expects MON to raise its FY 2014 guidance.

Superior-managed Monsanto has been so successful during the 21st century in engineering seed innovations and out-producing all global competitors, that now Monsanto's nearest but lagging rival is trying with more than mild desperation to ape its success. Ellen Kullman, DuPont Chieftess is ditching DuPont's core competency in chemicals and related products and copy-catting Monsanto. She is literally betting the farm on the farm with her DuPont AG & NUT unit.

We believe Monsanto will remain out in front for many years to come. DuPont does not appear to have the critical mass of scientific and managerial talent to catch up to Monsanto, after years of severe cost-slashing and degrading people resources. In the past four years, DuPont leaders have delivered two massive agricultural failures:

    * DuPont OptimumGAP, a commercially failed genetically-modified seed trait supposedly designed to compete with Monsanto.

    * DuPont Imprelis, now banned by the U. S. EPA, intended to treat dandelions in the lawn, but turned efficient serial killer of mature landscaping trees, some as old as 75 years, and 75 feet tall. Imprelis ultimately in our opinion will cost DD shareholders $2 billion or more.

    …funfun..
