The January Barometer? It works

When January is green, the year is higher 80% of the time going back to 1928, with an average return of 13%, according to BAML's chief technician Stephen Suttmeier. When January goes red, the full year is higher just 42% of the time with an average return of negative 2.3%.

For all years going back to 1928, the chance of an up year is 66% with an average return of 7.5%.
