VMware names R&D chief its new CTO

VMware (VMW) has named Ben Fathi, until now its SVP of R&D, its new CTO. The appointment comes a year after VMware saw CTO Steve Herrod leave for a VC firm. (PR)

The appointment puts Fathi, who was held executive positions at Cisco and Microsoft, in charge of the virtualization software leader's product development at a time when it's trying to evolve into a broad-based provider of data center/cloud infrastructure management software.
