Delta Air Lines looks to set itself apart

Delta Air Lines (DAL +2.6%) says it will spend $770M on a three-year project to upgrade the interior of 225 of its planes.

Passengers are likely to approve of the changes with every seat to have electrical power and overhead bins to be enlarged.

The carrier will add new seats to many of the planes.

What to watch: The relaxation of FAA rules on electronics devices will usher in a new era for the industry. Many industry watchers think passengers will pay a premium for upgraded planes with a high-tech edge.

What is worse than siting in an airplane for hours next to a screaming kid?

Listening to some stranger discuss his bowel movements on his cellphone.

    Two things:

    1. The aircraft receiving the upgraded interiors I believe are all domestic aircraft and not used on overseas routes.
    2. Delta has stated they will not allow in-flight cell phone calls, even if allowed by the FAA, unless there is a major customer desire for it. The relaxed FAA rules are only for electronic device usage and not for cell phone calling.
