Despicable Me 2 finally hits China

Universal had to wait over seven months, but Despicable Me 2 finally premiered today in China.

A lengthy wait for a film to hits screen in China is typically a large disadvantage, but animated features geared toward children can sometimes survive the delay.

The Comcast (CMCSA)-owned studio says that even without China in the mix Despicable Me 2 was its most profitable film in history.

This movie was a summer hit that many paid no attention to. Man of Steel was getting all of the coverage, even though it will never be as profitable as D2. The budget for production of this movie was small fraction of what it took to make Man of Steel and other. But healthy profits have added to Comcast/NBC/Universal's bottom line and that explains part of the reason why the stock has done fairly well. Les Mis was also quite successful financially for them.
