Lions Gate: Hunger Games a smash hit, but shares stalled

  • Lions Gate (LGF -0.2%) reports The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has earned $409M in the U.S. to become the highest-grossing film of any 2013 release.
  • The movie also passed the first Hunger Games flick on its way to becoming one of the 13 biggest earners ever in North America.
  • Shares of LGF have struggled to reach their elevated levels seen about a month before the movie's debut and have slipped back below $30 today.
  • Media analysts note that valuation on Lions Gate is in line with other studio-driven media stocks.

LGF has another big trilogy coming soon, Divergent. On Twitter, Facebook and in every high school around America there is serious demand for this movie to come out. What makes it different from Hunger Games is that it doesn't have the same female bias and this movie may appeal more to the older age groups as well. I don't believe it to be too far of a stretch to say that this movie may eclipse The Hunger Games in ticket sales.

What's the basic storyline and what do you know about the book(s) written. Was it(they) titled Divergent?

    Do you always repeat yourself?

Hunger Games II would pop again if they released original Hunger Games on television. There still might be a few HG virgins who could get hooked, therefore wanting more.
