Obama declares emergency in West Virginia after chemical spill

Pres. Obama declared an emergency in West Virginia today after a chemical spill tainted drinking water, leading to a tap water ban for up to 300K people, shut down bars and restaurants and led to a run on bottled water in some stores.

A toxic chemical used in coal processing leaked from a tank and into the Elk River, near a treatment plant for West Virginia American Water (AWK).

Thousands of miles of water mains are affected, and several more days may be required before normal service resumes.
