Toyota unveils sporty concept car

• Toyota's (TM -0.5%) first appearance at the Detroit Auto Show was dominated by the appearance of the FT-1 concept car.
• The automaker aims to infuse some excitement back into the Toyota brand with the sporty model which brings back some memories of the Supra or Toyota 2000GT and has a front end that could pass for a F-1 contender.
• The plan by Toyota to use the FT-1 as a halo for other models is similar to Ford's strong global marketing push of the new Mustang.
