Family Dollar Stores whacked by Raymond James

Raymond James downgrades Family Dollar Stores (FDO -0.5%) to an Underperform rating from Market Perform.

The investment firm thinks the retailer should trade at a discount to its peers due to the "inferior" sales productivity history it has shown.

The entire dollar store group has been a disappointment this holiday season after many prominent retail analysts called out it for gains on a trading-down effect from strapped consumers. Intense promotional activity in the sector turned that thesis on its head.
