European stocks rise

European shares are mostly higher heading into lunchtime and making up for losses yesterday.

However, Shell is -2.8% following a rather severe profit warning and is dragging on the FTSE 100, thereby negating any effect of surprisingly strong U.K. retail sales.

EU Stoxx 50 +0.4%, London flat, Paris +0.4%, Frankfurt +0.3%, Madri +0.2%, Milan +0.2%.

U.S. stock futures: Dow +0.2%. S&P +0.2%. Nasdaq +0.2%.
