Linn Energy/LinnCo upgraded to Focus Stock at Howard Weil

Linn Energy (LINE +1.4%) and LinnCo (LNCO +1.1%) are upgraded to Focus Stock from Sector Outperform at Howard Weil as a result of the potentially game-changing transaction around Linn's now-60K net acres prospective for horizontal Wolfcamp drilling.

The firm notes Linn enters 2014 in strong shape after a difficult 2013 after closing the Berry transaction, and the new assets could yield better capital efficiency upon seeing the combined budget and expected production growth over the next few months.

The firm says the Berry integration should be relatively smooth as Linn has had ample time to prepare, but most importantly, the companies' combined Permian position offers a myriad of options to convert the non-producing horizontally prospective acreage into cash flow.

This is the second or third upgrade in the last couple of weeks. Good news.

I'm glad a certain James persona was not able to scare me into selling Line on the low.

2014 will be the year for Linn to show the naysayers where to go!

It was a tough hold last year but the consistent monthly dividend and the supporters on SA kept me hanging on. I still have quite a ways to go to get back to even, but it's headed in the right direction and if they keep paying that 9% monthly dividend it won't take long, and they can take their time getting the stock price up. Thanks to the conviction of writers on SA.

@ Risky ... Same here. Like you, I was encouraged by SA when things looked shaky. I'm glad I held on to my position in LNCO. Thanks to the SA folks who kept me in the game :-)

I'm pleased to read this news. I've been long LINN since 2009, and I added to it this year. Barron's is discredited several more notches.

Woo-hoo! Had to read that first sentence twice to make certain that I was really seeing what I was seeing. Loaded up the truck a couple of times when it dipped. Rather looks like holding and adding just might have been a better decision than bolting with the hysterical herd. Besides, got the dividends, too....and oh, yeah, there is that Brent-WTI spread is good and going to get better. Barron's who?

When certain people are shorting the stock they like to panic the herd and send them off the cliff. That was when I bought more knowing that we have good management and a strong vision of where to take the company. 2014 will be the year that all naysayers will be crying in their beer and wishing they were on board.
Hang in the all faithful stockholders, you are in for the ride of your lives.

I added over 6K shares during panic days last August-September and I am not selling this cash cow.
