Wal-Mart shares shake off profit warning

Shares of Wal-Mart (WMT -0.1%) have recovered nicely from an early dip and are now outpacing the S&P 500 despite a cut in Q4 guidance.

Though the same what-me-worry attitude is being seen with Target (TGT -0.7%) and the dollar store group (FDO, DG, DLTR, FIVE), some retail analysts think the company's shortfall points to a larger issue than just winter storms.

Public policy changes regarding food stamps and unemployment benefits won't go away when the sun melts the snow, they note.

WMT: it is a flight to quality stock. Scared money flocks to this defensive issue.

What public policy changes regarding food stamps an unemployment benefits? Food stamp rolls are rising, helped with marketing (in Spanish too) with our taxes dollars, and we just extended unemployment benefits again.

Which policy? Google just sold Motorola to the Chinese. Some of those 2500 people outside Dallas who were making Moto phones might join that program. Around the holidays a large steelmaker with operations in Alabama announced it was moving and setting up shop in Brazil where you can hire yourself a lot more Brazilians for the price of 1 gringo. You should know about it. Its been public policy to encourage this business plan for the last 25 yrs in this country. $2 hr Chinese making iPhones are hard to find in the US

June1234, that's not an answer to what "Public policy changes regarding food stamps and unemployment benefits?" That's indicating a change in the government programs themselves.
