Major hurdle for IMAX in China

IMAX (IMAX) faces a major challenge in China as the government-controlled China Film Group continues to open major films on 3D screens.

The company thinks China Film Group utilizes technology lifted from IMAX and is busy in several courts trying to seek a remedy.

Later this month, Sony and MGM will distribute the 3D version of RoboCop on China Film Group's screens.

Of course, China is famous for stealing technologies and duplicating them.
    I am not surprised.
IMAX should not allow China to steal their trade secrets.

The Chinese are notorious thieves,...they actually think it is their right to steal.

If you do business with them, they will steal from you, by definition. Best to just avoid them altogether.

yeah unfortunately with the worlds largest population when looking for growth a lot of companies don't have a choice...

There will always be thieves regardless of where they are... India is just as bad as China, and the US has had it's problems too.

I'm Chinese and when I went there they just tried to rip me off everywhere I went. When I went to the stores I realized everything was a knockoff. They spend more effort trying to steal than actually use ingenuity. My mom told me if you came to China to print a calendar, before they delivered it to you, it'd be all over the market.

Sadly, IMAX seemed to have made a big mistake here going in to China and then getting their technology stolen, by a cinema company run by the government. Good luck with that lawsuit.

I had a really good run with IMAX, from 20 to 27. I've been waiting for it to come back down but I'm not so sure this is the kind of news I want the price to be dropping from.
