Consumer Reports ranks automakers by consumer perception

  • Toyota (TM) topped Consumer Reports list of leading brands ranked by consumer perception once again, increasing its margin over second-place Ford (F) and third-place Honda (HMC).
  • Notable movers in this year rankings were Tesla Motors (TSLA) up to fifth and Subaru (FUJHY) to join the top ten.

Amazing, Tesla Motors in the top five. How can the shorts not see what is happening right in front of their eyes?

Anyone who shorts TSLA is either

    1) stupid

    2) crazy

    3) lying.

Quality product, low operating cost ( electric vs. gasoline), and excellent performance.

If you want to short anything, short GM, Ford, Toyota, etc..

Tesla Motors, Inc....5th place! just the beginning...

"Consumer Reports survey shows the brand to watch is Telsa Motors, which jumped from 47 points last year, to fifth position with 88 points. Tesla had a strong, very public year, with soaring stock prices, magazine awards, and exceptional crash-test performance. Innovation, performance, and sleek styling is clearly gaining attention and making a positive impression. By gaining points in several categories, Tesla was able to raise its overall score. This highlights the value of being good at multiple things, rather than rely on a single facet."

The ass-kicking by Tesla is just beginning. By 2016 the media will be ALL OVER THE MODEL E, even if it's not produced yet. Get in now if you haven't already, and be patient ... next catalyst will be either Model X fruition or NHTSA all-clear, followed by initial numbers from China.

That's very very good for Tesla. Consider they only have one car model out now and it being a new company and the car costing a decent amount. They probably lost lots of points because it can not be purchased gor the same price as a Corolla, but still top 5 is outstanding.

Wonder how Ferrari, Lambogini, and Lotus scored.

    Cassina,
Tonight I have been clicking my finger off on the LIKE button to the ones who support Tesla, but nothing happens, I don't know if anyone else has had that experience today, but the program will not accept my vote and that is very frustrating, especially when I have a feeling there is someone in SA keeping that button from working. I reported it to them tonight, but don't know if they will fixed it .
I just wanted to let you know that I tried to give you a two thumbs up, but it would not work, thanks for your support.

Ford's placing is amazing, when you consider the Consumer Reports 'trash-talk' on the reliability of the Ford brand...mostly due to the MyTouch system. I believe MyTouch is always sold as an option, which confuses me relative to CR's Ford downgrades. (prejudice?). Since it is becoming extremely clear that a car driver's mind needs to be fully on driving and not on cell phone discussions, etc, I hope they leave this as an option.

Well to be fair a lot of folks are very opinionated their technology, especially in cell phones, tablets, notebooks, etc. Ford's MyFord touch screen has Microsoft software. And almost nobody likes or wants Microsoft's Windows Phones if they can get an iPhone or Android. In any case, the MyFord Touch system has gotten a reputation as being glitchy, it is a software issue, and folks will notice every time they try to do something on the touch screen and it doesn't happen as they would expect. And they report it to Consumer Reports with the exact same sort of fervor as if the engine had exploded unexpectedly and taken out the entire neighborhood.

That's a good one Tdot! I agree with you. I think Ford should switch to Apple as the software provider. And people would report their Mytouch problems as if its the end of the world!

I think many shareholders would love to see Ford switch to an alternate OS software supplier, based on nearly 4 decades of inexplicable system crashes and blue screens of death - even before Sync and MyFord came along. The hangups in MyFord seem remarkably similar to "business as usual" from the MS-DOS folks.

I said that years ago about Ford partnering with Microsoft.

Well, at least they don't pull a complete Microsoft and blame it on the drivers.

As the article stated, this was a public perception poll. Of course Tesla Fans and Owners will boost their opinion of their expensive toys.

If you knew anything about CR or how it works, you'd understand that's a silly question to ask.

The My Touch in my SHO sucks and always has. It comes standard in a SHO, if it didn't I would never bought it because Microsoft designed it and that is why it sucks. My SHO is great otherwise. I own a ton of F and wish F would scrap My Touch and start over with someone else because the lousy reports F gets from Consumers Report has hurt the stock from $2. to $3. in my opinion

Tesla has only produced under 35,000 of one vehicle, for only one full year, and they are in fifth place!!!!

Tesla clearly is building a remarkable brand. They have innovated beyond expectations, produced a vehicle with award winning quality, and have not missed a step in outperforming their peers.

All that, the potential size of the EV market, and the potential for opening up new markets more than justifies their valuation.

It seems to me that Ford is trying to adjust its program to fit a responsible longer term economic model. Platform sharing is a very good wy to do this as the concept of modularity's ability of adaptation to allow the quickest and most efficient means of respondint toinputs such as overall demand, changing government safety and economy standards, and specific marleting feedback worldwide.
We live in a county where building a road that lasts 50 years is a bit more difficult and expensive than building one that lasts 10 years; so we build one to last 10 years and bitch when it starts falling apart. When Ford announced the Aluminum F150, it was clear to me that they are way ahead of the game. WHen a suit talks about the advantages of steel in response to Ford's bold move, I think of an old Richard Braughtigan incredible one sentence short story: "He'd sell a rats a**hole to a blind man for a wedding ring".

Boy, ya mention Tesla in an article as an "also ran", and the Teslaniacs just show up out of thin air like so many cockroaches, with bells and trumpets and flutes and harps and drums, strutting around and singing praises and honors to their god and savior. Must be some sort overcompensation for an inferiority complex brought on from mediocrity. Almost like they are twelve again, and just about nearly won their first junior high basketball game against the school of the deaf and blind team, after badly losing a baker's dozen straight. Time for a parade and the Handing Out of Certificates of Participation!

Tdot. When Apple computer started out, people were trashing Steve Jobs. Now, Steve is with the angels and in the history books with Rockefeller, JP Morgan, George Westinghouse, and Nicolas Tesla.

My prediction, When Elon Musk dies, he will be in the same category.

Can't believe that Toyota was #1 when it occupied two places in top ten recalls that impacted the US market.

Surprising how marketing can control people's perceptions. But then, CR is just the opinion of the CR audience that bothers to answer their survey.
