Duke Energy stops leak of coal ash into North Carolina river

  • Duke Energy (DUK) said over the weekend it had installed a permanent plug in the leaking stormwater pipe that dumped tons of coal ash and wastewater into the Dan River.
  • DUK says crews filled part of the stormwater pipe with concrete and capped it, and the rest of the pipe will be filled with concrete as well; the next step is to keep monitoring water quality.
  • DUK apologized for the spill and pledged to clean up the toxic waste from the river.

    It's high time. I don't know the technical problems but I can't
imagine it takes so long to stop the flow.
