Duke Energy stops leak of coal ash into North Carolina river

Duke Energy (DUK) said over the weekend it had installed a permanent plug in the leaking stormwater pipe that dumped tons of coal ash and wastewater into the Dan River.

DUK says crews filled part of the stormwater pipe with concrete and capped it, and the rest of the pipe will be filled with concrete as well; the next step is to keep monitoring water quality.

DUK apologized for the spill and pledged to clean up the toxic waste from the river.

    It's high time. I don't know the technical problems but I can't
imagine it takes so long to stop the flow.
