In 1984 The GOP was a national unifier who made all Americans proud to be Americans again at the expense of the Dems who pandered only to the lowest of the low.

By 2012 the GOP has become a national divider who pander only to the highest of the high, the bigoted, the uneducated, and religious extremists while the Dems have a message that most Americans can unify behind.

Easy to see what happened here. Unify the country and you win. Pander to extremists and the rich and you lose.

    It's far simpler:

In 1984, only 15% of Americans did not pay income taxes; in 2012, it was 47%. The Democratic Party has become the party of the recipients of Government largess, while the Republicans represent the shrinking group of taxpayers.

I pay many times more taxes than you Tack. Yet, the Republicans represent my interests in no way. Why is it that conservatives feel they are the only ones who pay taxes? They refer to tax expenditures as "their money", then denigrate the most needy in our society as entitled. Sounds like projection.

Also, the use of income tax to determine who pays taxes makes no sense considering the middle class pays such a massive portion of all sales taxes, property taxes, FICA taxes, fees, while the wealthy pay relatively little of that revenue source.

How is it that you think you pay more taxes than I do? You have a crystal ball or, perhaps, work for the NSA?

Regardless of who pays more tax, he made a good point that your "47% of Americans don't pay income tax" stat is a useless and self-serving statistic/talking point that hides what is really happening in this country.

Of the time frame mentioned (1984 to 2012), the government has been almost equally controlled by Democrats and Republicans...(4 years of supermajority by Republicans, 6 by Democrats; Presidency split slightly in favor of Republicans)...so your claim that a third of American voters were "bought" by Democrats is complete and utter BS. The sooner the "highest of the high, the bigoted, the uneducated, and religious extremists" understand this, the sooner our country can get itself back on track.
