Faith crumbling in office supply chains

Shares of Office Depot (ODP) tumble in early action after the company's Q4 report shows underlying weakness despite the Office Depot-OfficeMax combination.

The quick analyst take is that the integration of the two big box chains is proving tricky with synergies still off in the distance. A strong quarterly report from Home Depot for an overlapping period makes Office Depot look even weaker.

Staples (SPLS) investors have taken notice of the development. SPLS -3.4% premarket.
