Testy times between Target and Procter & Gamble

  • Target (TGT) has retaliated against Procter & Gamble (PG) over its decision to get cozy with Amazon, according to inside sources.
  • P&G decided last year to let Amazon set up space inside of its warehouses to help fulfill online orders.
  • Now, some P&G products have been de-emphasized at Target stores and given less-prominent placements.

    tgt will do as it feels what it is correct for its business just like it has prevented some employees time off to be with returning wounded veteran family members. Same goes for walmart in their treatment of disabled employees. I shop k-mart

    Tgt is a very small percentage of PG's sales. People are more loyal to PG products than Target. PG will win this one.

    It didn't take Target long to pare back some of the P&G brand. Just got back from the grocery (Target). It used to be all Crest brand but now it's only a small part. Personally I like it better more choice and better selections. Time will tell in the laundry aisle and asswipe section where there is a bigger hole to fill.

    By paring back pg products,target is losing the pricing umbrella that PG provides for all other competitive products.
    Competitive products and private label depend on the discipline of that pricing structure and without it, a retailer migrates down to a dollar general or family dollar price structure
    Exactly has stupid is target not to understand this?
    Look at the pet food aisle or the cereal aisle in the supermarket
    Some of the best pricing discipline know to mankind and the most profitable aisles in the grocery store.
    Wake up Target before you become a target general or family target chain
    You are going to lose whatever integrity you held as a upscale retailer

    Upscale compaired to dollar general etc
    At least you get a free cart and some bags to put your purchases in at target
    Did you not understand the pricing issue at stake? That is the critical issue

    PG owes TGT NOTHING! TGT competes/undercuts PG with target's house brand. Competition getting to you TGT? Management appears incompetent and has been making bad decisions over the last few months.

    Good for TGT. Amazon needs to be taken down a notch. Most forget if it wasn't for a brick and mortar store like a TGT, then online businesses couldn't exist. Use TGT as a showroom, then buy from Amazon. PG also has to be on its toes. They shouldn't bite the hand that feeds them. And TGT has to be a little more sharp. By the way, I am long in PG.

    When you say Target is a small % of P&G sales, obviously you don't know your customer share data!! Trust me, Lafley will be making a few visits to Minneapolis to work through this. P&G needs all the Target they can get. Just like with Walmart.

    Last time I looked ,Walmart was about 25 percent of consumer products cos sales
    I don't think target is anywhere near that
    I would say target is making a big mistake
