U.S. hit by yet more snow

Yet another winter storm is causing further misery for travellers, including airline passengers.

The storm is expected to hit the East Coast after making its way across the Midwest and parts of the south, dropping freezing rain, sleet or snow.

Public Service Enterprise Group (PEG) has arranged for tree trimmers and other contractors to add to its own repair crews to try to keep electricity disruption to a minimum.

Over 470 flights have been cancelled for today and another 120 have been delayed.

With 35,000 flights in the US this represents about 1.3% of the flights for the day, with a "normal" clear weather cancellation rate of about 0.5%. Checking the Departures out of Newark, there are 22 flights cancelled for today, all are regional jets, so the impact on seats lost is less. Checking JFK, there are 33 cancellations, again mostly regional jets, but with hourly shuttles to LAX, there are a two larger planes cancelled there. As for LaGuardia, the same pattern emerges with 51 cancellations, almost all regionals.

Not sure why there is a Winter Weather Warning posted for my area. One to Two inches of snow for the day is called for. When did 1-2" of snow come with a Warning? Snow is expected as it is winter.

We are not suppose to have winter.

Global warming is sold as fact.

We now have to refer to it as Climate Change, to justify any weather scenario.

That way we can throw some money at it either way.

If we changed the term "Climate Change" back to "Seasons", then everything would be just fine again!

Global warming continues to be confirmed as a fact. 2013 tied for the fourth hottest year on record. North America had a freakishly cold winter but the rest of the world was rather warm. The olympics in sochi were probably the hottest winter games ever.

And even if it was, nobody can show any evidence that altering our behavior at great cost, could do anything to have any effect on it whatsoever.

There's 'global warming' on Mars too; Al Gore, Maurice Strong, and Goldman Sachs (an environmental group if there ever was one) are trying to figure out a way to extract money from Americans. Hard to believe a handful of rovers are changing the climate on Mars, isn't it?

Ironic how the left wing whackos want to create yet another financial derivative for Wall St and the Crony Capitalists to trade, that is derived from skimming off the utility bills and daily energy costs of the middle class , resulting in just another regressive tax on the living standard of the bottom 50%.

Would you invest in stocks with the same probability that global warming exists? Of course not. 2 + 2 is 4. There is not that level of surety with global warming. Mann from the UK is suing in court people who challenged his thoroughly disputed "hockey stick" hypothesis. Yet, he doesn't peer review his literature with scientists who doubt climate change as a man made phenomena. Facts are stubborn things.

Follow the money. The US govt is paying big money to universities who research global warming and believe it's factual before they start. A person who doubts the science can't receive any grants.

So we do nothing since it can't be proven that anything we do helps. What do we do when the siht hits the fan and at that point it is too late to do anything? ie, don't try to solve a problem unless there is proof that the proposed solution works beforehand.

    Sounds like Republican thinking!

bdoeden, read all of the comments above and tell me where ANYONE said we should not be responsible stewards of our environment? Most Republicans also believe we have to be responsible for our economy at the same time and any decisions that affect anything should be based on scientific fact and not a prediction obtained from a Ouija Board.

Liberal ‘science’ and liberal ‘thinking’ are the real problem as they are never based on facts.

Don't forget to let me know who made the comment to destroy our environment.

Philip. A fact is something that virtually all people agree on. Virtually all people agree that there is disagreement on whether there is global warming or not. One indicator of global temperatures is indicating cooling since 1998 that blows up all the "fact" people. As an investor, I am open minded on the issue and listen to both sides. People claiming "fact" or stating there is agreement on global warming are politically motivated and only see one side of the situation. Those people are buying Tesla stock because they see the car as a savior of the environment. Bad call if the environmental "facts" are wrong.

1980XLS: I agree. Also, even if it's true, just consider the fact that the same type of leftists
who brought forth the monstrosity known as "Obamacare" now want to be in charge of a
plan to "Save the World!" I totally distrust the Left.
