New deal between Dish Network and Disney is full of treats

  • Dish Network (DISH) agrees to cut back on the use of its ad-skipping technology for ABC shows as part of a long-term carriage and distribution deal with Disney (DIS). The move could help Disney bring in more advertising revenue than peers.
  • ABC will drop litigation with Dish over the Auto Hop Feature.
  • An important part of the arrangement between the two companies gives Dish the online video rights to Disney-owned TV shows.
  • The development could make it easier for Dish to launch an online TV service in the future to set it apart from other pay-TV providers.
