InsiderScore: Insiders warming to some energy names

Four energy companies attracted considerable insider buying during the month of February, according to InsiderScore.

Kinder Morgan Partners' (KMP) COO bought 6,600 shares for $498K on the first trading day after Barron's published a cautious report on the Kinder companies, and increased his non-option holdings by 156% to 10,800 shares.

Phillips 66 Partners' (PSXP) COO bought 4,100 shares for $182K, and adding to his previous position on strength is seen as an incremental positive.

At SM Energy (SM), the COO and General Counsel each made purchases, but the COO's light buy showed little conviction and CEO Anthony Best has thus far remained on the sidelines.

Hess (HES) Chairman Mark Williams made his first purchase, buying 12K shares for $980K.

Keep in mind that a half million out of Rich's pocket is to him like a twenty out of mine. I do enjoy the sentiment though.

    Long KMP

I admire Mr. Kinders' tenacity and conviction buying his own stock in KMI AND KMP. I do wonder where he gets the $ millions to do so but if you are convinced that the company is much better investment-than DO invest in your own company. I am very heavy and long on KMP and 6 months in KMI (glad I don't have to sell now :) )

Hey guys, the insider who bought is not Rich Kinder. The COO is Steven Kean.

And as far as where Kinder gets his money, just the dividends and distributions he gets from the shares and units he owns mount up to a most considerable sum.

Good point, Arthur. I plan to collect Kinder Morgan dividends the rest of my days, and I'll bet Rich Kinder intends the same although he owns more shares than I do........actually a lot more shares......something you might call a vote of self-confidence.

I bought shares on Monday, too. Therein is the end of the similarity between me and the COO, moneywise.
