Ford ramps up R&D in China

Ford (F) plans to ramp research and development in China as it stays on a pace to sell more than one million vehicles in the region.

The automaker will add new facilities and increase headcount by 50% to close to 2K by 2018.

The goal of the initiative is to integrate "local customer insight" into product designs.

    So, no "One Ford" then?

Only yesterday Ford warned about excess capacity in emerging market countries. And now this. Which is it?

Seems like no strategy, or perhaps just bad communication.

China is not an emerging market. India and Brazil are considerable smaller markets then China. I think it is a smart move to invest in China.

@ 1980xls, Thanks I stand corrected you are right about China. Never the less I find it strange that it should be classified as an emerging country.

I just find it strange one day they are commenting about overcapacity and over investment, only to hear this news, only one day later.
