Focus on Orca captivity hurting SeaWorld, shares -5.3%

Shares of SeaWorld Entertainment (SEAS -5.3%) as lower after lawmakers in California start to work on and publicize proposed legislation in the region to phase out Orca Whale captivity.

The group points out that other states already limit the practice of displaying the large marine animals in enclosed spaces.

The company is likely to be called out during a press conference later today by Assemblyman Richard Bloom.

SeaWorld stock and public opinion would rise sharply if they stop fighting the future of whales/dolphins in captivity - there is no future. If SeaWorld constructed an open-water sanctuary for the animals, their publicity and stock would rise drastically. Public opinion of banning captivity is growing everyday.
open-water mean that the mammals would be released into the ocean to go where they want, but since they have been fed by humans they may not be able to hunt. They would return to the sanctuary for food and safety at their own will. This is how Keiko lived out his final years. They were hoping that Keiko would be capable of returning to a normal whale's life. When Keiko couldn't live this way, there were people there to help him. Do the right thing SeaWorld. You are only hurting your profits treating the whales and dolphins the way you do.

There is a documentary called "Blackfish" which I saw on CNN. It documents the capture of a baby Orca called Tilikum, and it's life while in captivity at SeaWorld, including the conditions it was kept in, the training practices, and the cover ups by SeaWorld of three deaths that this animal caused. These marine mammals are far to intelligent to be kept in captivity. They should be respected and left in the wild where they belong. SeaWorld must be stopped. EVERYONE MUST WATCH THIS DOCUMENTARY!
