Boeing to inspect some 787 Dreamliners for wing cracks

  • Boeing (BA) says a manufacturing problem had caused hairline cracks in the wings on some of its 787 Dreamliner jets, requiring inspections on 42 aircraft and delaying the delivery of some to airlines.
  • The defect is another headache for Boeing, which is working to consistently produce 10 Dreamliners per month this year; the company says it still plans to deliver around 110 of the jets in 2014.
  • Boeing says none of the 123 787s already delivered are affected by the wing issue.
  • BA -1.1% AH.

What numbers problems is this one since 2003

Time to paint each number on each aircraft

Is cash for clunkers program still available ?

What the Kelly Blue Book trade in price for a 787 ?

There still time to cut the wings off the 787 and move the engines to rear and sell the 787 to California Governor Jerry Brown for the bullet train and Duct tape Boeing CEO to the nose cone

A little super glue should fix the problems alone with another bounces for the CEO
this should make the stock go up again

Boeing has a classes action lawsuits for making false claims about the 787 including not assemble 10 787 per months

There are plenty of cracks in both the left-wing and right-wing.

So much for the best and latest technological breakthroughs.

I prefer the venerable 737 for almost every trip.

@TAS - using the best and latest tech "breakthroughs" when discussing wing cracks is probably not a good idea, lol. As for the 737, it may be venerable but also vulnerable to old age...

This left out the fact that the wing problem wasn't Boeing's fault, it was their wing-maker who screwed up.

"Boeing said Friday that discovery of a 787 Dreamliner manufacturing defect by wing-maker Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan means 43 of the jets have to be inspected for small hairline cracks inside the wings."

When was the Eddy current perform (NDT) on the wings?

See Popular Mechanics June 1989 page 69 and Boeing Specification BAC-5651 BAC 5651

And where were the inspectors that bought off the test, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Boeing, FAA, QA, ect

The cracks resulted from over-tightening of the fasteners without the use of manufacturing fillers,
    aka An torque wrench!

And where were the inspectors at that bought off the torque wrench reading test, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Boeing, FAA, QA ?

Where was Boeing incoming inspection and QA at ?

Boeing is reasonable for its aircraft and all the parts that are build by vendor and suppliers see

Boeing also has had quality problems with its jetliners in the past. Problems with crossed wiring in fire-extinguisher systems in its 767s prompted complaints three years ago by American Airlines, Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways. British Airways also complained in 1988 about persistent problems with a variety of systems and fasteners in its new 747 jumbo jets. Boeing officials said they resolved the issues.
