Boeing 787 makes emergency landing following engine problem

A Japan Airlines (JAPSY) Boeing (BA) 787 flying to San Francisco from Tokyo has made an emergency landing at Honolulu Airport following a fall in the oil pressure in the right engine.

The glitch is the latest in a series of problems to affect the 787 and comes after Boeing said on Friday that it needs to inspect 42 yet-to-be-delivered aircraft for possible hairline cracks in the wings due to a manufacturing problem.

Meanwhile, search crews have still failed to find any signs of the Malaysia Airlines 777 that disappeared over the weekend whilst flying over Vietnamese airspace.

    Really? Is this really news? I really don't know what to call it. If it mentioned what manufacture's engines were on it, then you might assume GE or Rolls might be I mention as the lead. Boeing really doesn't have anything to do with it. I'm sure Airbus had one of theirs, land early because of a warning light last month and didn't read anything about it on Seeking A. Very typical for Seeking Alpha.

    Why would you suggest adding an engine manufacturer's name to an article when there is no evidence of any link between the engine and the drop in oil pressure at this time? Are you short GE? You criticize SA for mentioning Boeing in this write-up and then criticize them for NOT doing the same thing with Airbus.


    I’m not sure what you are looking for in the way of news but you are probably unlikely to find it here on SA. Might I suggest MSNBC? They have this guy named Cramer and ……………


    Other than the DOW News Feed, I think SA is one of the best sources on the net for stock news and I am thankful for their existence.

    It all seems like, in some respects at least, that technology is catching up with the human condition: too much need for everything "fast", and if it comes with "Dreams" (pun intended of course), so much the better.


    SA is a very open forum, but of course, like almost everything in society these today, if you can afford Preimum class, you get in: faster newsfeeds, article feeds, and (I suspect, as I am not one of those) the benefit of "SA's engineering" to benefit financially those who are Preimum clients.


    Having said the above, I feel that most of SA's discussions are genuine, unbiased, and very, very informative. The SA editors, for better or for worse, do try their best to keep postings to be objective, not too personal, and for want of a better description, "relevant and useful".


    For now, I suspect, BA, GE and Rolls, along with EADS (as they still have to fly their A350 with full payload) are all risky, but who knows...

    Since 3-28-2003 only 122 787 has been delivery to date


    and Boeing is paying the Airlines for all the 787 problems

    Ah, Thomas.... How could we guess that you would show up to bash Boeing? Are you an Airbus employee, or just a fanboy? The problem here is with a GE engine, and nothing to do with 787, other than the engine is installed on one. Airbus just cut their production targets for A350, and it's now over a year and a half late. More cracks on A380 wings too. See, we can both play that game.

    The A350 was start in 2005 and is production, in flight test, has flown at the Airshow in 2013 and 2014
    The A-350 has 812 orders for the passenger version and 118 orders for the freighter version, A350 will delivery in 2016, the 787-10, 737Max, 777-X are still on the drawing board
    The 777-X is coming to market in 2020 too late to complete with the A350 that will be delivery in 2016
    Airbus now has parts build in plants once own by Boeing, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Spokane Washington
    The 777-X will need 27 Billions of tax payer money to build 259 777-X that only need on route flying in and out of Singapore and Australia
