Report: Yahoo exec responsible for Yahoo Japan leaves

Kara Swisher reports Naoko Okumoto, the Yahoo (YHOO -1.7%) exec in charge of managing the company's relationship with 35%-owned Yahoo Japan, has left the company.

Yahoo Japan's sales fell 4% Y/Y in Q3 to $992M, but its net income rose 15% to $365M. The Japanese Web portal's shares are trading close to their 52-week high in Tokyo. Yahoo's stake has a current market value of ~$12B.

Okumoto is the latest of several execs to leave Yahoo's struggling Asia-Pac unit. Yahoo's own Asia-Pac revenue (ex-TAC), pressured by the mobile shift, fell 10% Y/Y in Q4 to $195M (16% of total revenue).

Good ol Kara Swisher. She just doesn't miss a beat. She catches every person leaving Yahoo. Wow, such great reporting. Anyone read her article?? It's a rehash of stuff she's written ten times before.

Man, Kara has such a hard on for Marissa Mayer. Boy oh Boy I cannot wait until Yahoo shows a turnaround in revenue. The stock is going to absolutely fly!!!!!

Alibaba is the only thing that is keeping Yahoo where it is......Yahoo is more like a FLY stuck on the flytrap.

    Something's not square here.
Either Yahoo Japan is part of the "Asia-Pac unit" in which case this new departure is part of it, or Q4 revenue dropped like a stone from Q3 to Q4.

Either way, Yahoo Japan does not seem to be struggling with higher margins and approaching 52wk highs, so how can this exec be leaving a struggling unit? This reads more like a hit piece than anything else.

Yes, YahooJapan itself is doing great.

It's Yahoo's own asia pacific unit that is still struggling. But that's isn't made clear by Kara, because Kara simply wants to bash Yahoo.

If you think Yahoo is not going to turn around revenue this year, you are mistaken. Wait til you see what Tumblr does.

All metrics are pointing to a turnaround and it's going to surprise everyone. The more bashing Kara does, the better.
