GE files for IPO of consumer finance unit

After the completion of the IPO, GE Capital Retail Finance will operate under the name Synchrony Financial and will trade on the Big Board under the symbol SYF. The move will go a long way into making GE less a bank and more an industrial play.

The size of the IPO isn't yet listed, but previous plans were to sell about 20% of the unit (with full unit valuation in the area of $20B) this year, with a complete exit from retail finance in 2015 through a spinoff of the rest to shareholders.

was looking at to cut some of my share count last week but been holding onto them for this reason... GE Cap. (Synchrony Financial) will be a big boost for (GE) shareholders during and after the conversion. Will hold all my (GE) thru till after (SYF) shares are distributed or the $ is.

My plan is to hold for the spinoff as well and if a share exchange is offered, convert around 40% of my shares. Historically, spinoffs have outperformed as an investment vs the market and vs the parent company. My goal is to get the combined value into the low 30s by the end of the year.

My question still remains. W.why didn't current shareholders get a piece of this action and instead are left with a company that seems for a long time to be languishing and with poor leadership? I do not think this process is going to add much to the share price of GE and, if it does, it will be short lived. I would rather have something to own with some value rather than waiting for the come.

The IPO is to establish value for the over all corporation. it also gives management the option to either distribute or exchange which ever enhances GE the best.

LOL, another company trying to dump stuff before the market turns. If they were serious about spinning this off they should have done it years back.
