Pandora's CTO/product chief stepping down

  • Tom Conrad, Pandora's (P -0.7%) CTO/EVP of product and a 10-year company vet, is stepping down in three months and "transitioning to an adviser role."
  • In a blog post, Conrad says he began plotting his departure 18 months ago, but delayed making a move to help Pandora with its CEO transition.
  • Engineering VP Chris Martin is Pandora's new CTO. The Web radio leader is also promoting VP of technical operations Steve Ginsberg to the role of CIO, and beginning a search for a chief product officer.

Too much management reshuffling, this doesn't end well. Last time I knew momentum stock with a bullish run and silent management reshuffling was Nortel, and look what happened to that company.

This exodus is a red flag. I guess all the insiders cashed in on the manipulated pump and now want to bail the company before SEC comes knocking at the door.

Pandora is a relatively simple business, but it has so many people with a word "chief" in front of their title. They have a CEO that likes to spend money. It never ends well.

It's not about Tom. It's about replacing one C-level executive with two C-level executives. Just a few weeks ago they added a "chief human resources officer", now a "chief product officer".

They should give you a title of a chief Seeking Alpha promoter. It's not fair - you work so hard.
