Fitch returns U.S. outlook to stable

|By:, SA News Editor

Fitch has raised the U.S.'s outlook to "stable" while affirming the country's AAA rating, citing the suspension of the debt limit last month and strong fiscal consolidation as reasons for the move.

Fitch had placed the U.S. on "rating watch negative" in October, saying it could downgrade the nation at the end of Q1. At the time, Fitch attributed the move to "political brinkmanship and reduced financing flexibility" that could increase the risk of a default. (PR)
