Fitch returns U.S. outlook to stable

  • Fitch has raised the U.S.'s outlook to "stable" while affirming the country's AAA rating, citing the suspension of the debt limit last month and strong fiscal consolidation as reasons for the move.
  • Fitch had placed the U.S. on "rating watch negative" in October, saying it could downgrade the nation at the end of Q1. At the time, Fitch attributed the move to "political brinkmanship and reduced financing flexibility" that could increase the risk of a default. (PR)

Sounds like the rating agencies and the gov have kissed and made up. Far as I know they're still running $1trillion annual deficits. Nothing like a few gov. lawsuits and probes to bring you around

Fitch = Text book example of rating brinksmanship. For 'translation' please consider:

    1. Has the danger of the dollar losing its coveted position as the global reserve currency lessened recently?
    2. Has the IMF unexpectedly ceased its efforts to replace the dollar with "Special Drawing Rights"?
    3. Have the Chinese suddenly given up their efforts to undermine the dollar?
    4. Has American tepid response to Putin's aggression in Crimea suddenly discouraged further adventurism by the Kremlin?
    5. Is the "Affordable" Care Act suddenly poised to create rather than kill job creation?

IMO, the dangers facing America has increased, not decreased in recent month.
