Deal rumor has Plug Power cutting losses

Down sharply earlier, Plug Power (PLUG -3.5%) retakes some of its lost ground amid a StreetInsider report of an imminent deal announcement with Volkswagon.

Plug plunged earlier this week when Volkswagon shot down a similar rumor.

Well I'm not going to say yea or nay.... but, I'll believe it when I see a big green candle on the plug chart! And, if there is something in the wind I would not expect it to be announced until after the bell.

after the bell? If that's the question....they know it would be wild so why not wait until after the market closes and let things simmer all weekend.

During Earning call MD said they have an impending deal with a big auto ..so it is not new that a deal is imminent. PLUG will eventually go far higher towards $50 or even $100

I understand the human side "too good to be true" but that is one of my games. Who would have thunk it FB could be $70 @$18? But I did and received similar rebuke here http://bit.ly/1eCb0tp I did same in HIMX, ITMN and many when they were just penny stocks.

On PLUG if you have the time just read the recent Earning call Transcript and try to understand what is going on. If WMT, FDX and so on are piling on..what happens globally ? What about China ? Remember the world is clamoring for climate change and also want to cut human civilization from the jaws of Mid-East and Russian Oil/Gas. I dont see the reason why PLUG wont get to $50 faster than most optimist believe

    @leopard,

PLUG is simply a hype stock not close to being comparable even to other fuel cell stocks let alone FB or TSLA. In addition, it's ridiculously silly to stubbornly keep comparing PLUG to high quality tech companies, I just don't understand the connection from a serious investors viewpoint (not gamblers, thank you)? PLUG is going to be bankrupt after the last speculator stops trading with the stock so keep dreaming, PLUG's business model is totally flawed.

How is their business model flawed?

They sell a complete turn key Fuel Cell package that Walmart, Kroger, Mercedes and BMW as well as Fed Ex have bought into.

That means not just initial sales of the fuel cell retrofit to forklifts but the reoccurring revenue from Hydrogen sales at each site....about 1700 dollars per year per truck...plus service sales.

    That's flawed how?

I know vw has a contract.

when vw denied the plug contract, bldp cratered too. it's contract didn't help it.

you may be right, but it's more than a little odd that the named stock hasn't moved as much as the one which has been the runt of the litter throughout this hysteria.

Could the confusion be a denial at VW Europe and pending announcement VW North America, or some such? They are a global corporation and decisions on supply/distribution could be made at division level.

Bear: if it's good news, wouldn't Marsh WANT everyone to play the stock emotionally? We see that happens all the time when they announce good news. So that would indicate they are waiting to announce BAD news

Wigit: all I'm saying was in answer to bear baits analysis: he said maybe good news will come out after the bell because they don't want volatility. I'm answering that if it WAS good news, then that's EXACTLY what they'd want, because after good news releases by PLUG, the volatility is ALWAYS in the UPSIDE

Okay I get that part, but how does that indicate bad news is coming?

Also, you should hit the little "Reply" button in the bottom right hand corner of the chat box the person you are responding to that way your response gets bracketed with the person your talking with.

This could double the stock price in a heartbeat, if it's anounced. Plus, PLUG has another announcement coming, of a China Partner. CEO Marsha said "people would be surprised when they see which major automaker" it was. Tick tock, Shorts....

It would not surprise me to see a dark-horse candidate such as Honda jump into the fray. Plug Power is an interesting story. If Tesla can attain such a lofty valuation -- which I cannot fathom it will ever live up to -- there is no reason why Plug Power cannot rocket upward.

Elon Musk is a marketing genius. Andy Marsh, Plug Power's CEO, would be wise to study Musk's approach and mimic it as much as possible. I've repeatedly said that if Tim Cook would do the same, Apple would be over $1,000 a share, but share price is admittedly not of concern to him.

Who cares just how high or low the stock is going short term ? We don't know nor should we care.

We do know there is another deal coming with an auto, we know PLUG is a small cap, we know shorts have resorted to bizarre and brazen accusations against PLUG and Marsh, simply everything we need to propel the stock much higher when the good news breaks.
Shorts never got the "major market correction" they were looking for, which is why they are working overtime to kill PLUG and DDD momentum. The next inflection point should push that momentum even harder. Meanwhile, we are very happy at $6 sp , with a negative cost base. Hoping our $8 strike May calls hold in to expire worthless. Our general experience is that the more noisy and abusive are the shorts, the better the upside sport.

Let it go. It's over for plug. Their biz model is fundamentally flawed. The larger they grow, the more money they will lose. It's not a feasible model. Maybe, if they are lucky, they will get acquired for peanuts once the dust settles.
