Lions Gate slides on weak numbers for Divergent

The movie drew $4.9M in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales on Thursday - not the movie's big opening night, but comparing to $19.7M for Hunger Games in March 2012. Lions Gate (LGF -7.9%) meanwhile has greenlighted a sequel, with film #2 tentatively scheduled to open a year from now with the title "Insurgent."

The movie is expected to sale between $50M and $68M of tickets through Sunday.

Previous: Early reviews of the film are mixed at best.

Why won't the herd understand that LGF is a whole lot more than Divergent ? The company has already laid off $65 million of the picture's $87 million production cost with their European distributors. LGF has vastly reduced its debt. Instituted a dividend. Management is superb. Management always hedges its bet on new releases by laying off costs exactly as they have done in this instance.Their motion picture and tv pipeline is excellent. Content is king, etc. Divergent was never assumed to be a Hunger Games. And, youngsters do not read or care about reviews. Divergent will do just fine. The ridiculous beating the market gave LGF today was irrational at best.
I have been long LGF for over two years. The stock has been a fantastic performer. The company continues to fire on all cylinders. The herd treats the company like it's a one hit wonder. Wrong !!

Weekend numbers will tell a different story.

Stock will jump Monday on this.

Too many folks who don't understand (LGF),and yes I mean analysts, are looking to movie critics for answers. That alone should tell those of us with stock in (LGF) that there is nothing to this recent drop.
