Continental's Hamm says export crude to punish Russia, boost energy security

The quickest way for the U.S. to weaken Russia’s influence and help allies abroad is by exporting its crude oil - not its gas - Continental Resources (CLR) CEO Harold Hamm told lawmakers today.

Sending natural gas overseas requires the construction of multibillion-dollar facilities, and only one such liquefied natural gas export terminal exists in Alaska and another is being constructed in Louisiana; it could be years before others are online, the CEO said, but crude oil can be immediately put into tankers and transported around the globe.

Hamm, of course, could benefit from an easing of the export ban by selling more of the crude from the Bakken North Dakota oil fields, where CLR is the biggest leaseholder.

All of us in North America must get real on this issue, as soon as possible. Exports of US and Canadian crude oil and refined products to Europe has become an essential task that can be put into effect right now.
Russia has gone way, way over the line and both President Obama and Canadian P.M. Harper have made it clear, economic actions speak far louder than words or even massed NATO armies in Poland. Putin will get the message immediately, in real time, NOW if we act accordingly. Congress is likely to agree quickly, as well, if Obama stops the foolish (misguided environmentalists') rhetoric about "dirty" Canadian Oil Sands.
Canada is ready and an act of Parliament no barrier. TIME TO STOP TALKING AND ACT!!

Harper only cares about votes. He will sell his kids to an Asian triad gang if it would help get the Asian triad vote.

This makes too much sense, so feeble obama will do nothing, as usual.

The US imports a third of our crude oil, so how is exporting it and then importing more a good idea?
