Fixed mortgage rates move up, Freddie Mac survey says

The average rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rose to 4.40% from 4.32% a week ago, according to the latest survey from Freddie Mac.

The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 3.42% in the latest week, up from 3.32% in the prior week.

A year ago, the 30-year and 15-year fixed rates averaged 3.57% and 2.76%, respectively.

Rates rose after Janet Yellen signaled a possible increase in interest rates as soon as early 2015, chief Freddie economist Frank Nothaft says.
