Kerry, Lavrov set to meet over Ukraine crisis

John Kerry is due to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today as the two men attempt to reach a settlement over Russia's annexation of Crimea.

The talks will come after President Obama and Vladimir Putin spoke on Friday, and Lavrov yesterday reiterated that Russia has no plans to cross the border into Ukraine despite a massive build-up of troops on the border. Putin made similar noises about annexing Crimea.

Meanwhile, John McCain wants the U.S. to consider forcing major U.S. corporations to suspend operations in, or withdraw from Russia if the latter attempts to seize more parts of Ukraine or other countries. Companies that would be affected include GE, Exxon Mobil, Ford, GM, Citigroup, JPMorgan, and Pepsi.

Putz? Maybe spending many years in a war camp being mistreated will do that. My guess is you or I wouldn't make it a week.

Served his country honorably 40 years ago. He deserves honor for the sacrifices he made in Vietnam.

Since then, has evolved into a horrible war-mongering corrupt Washington establishment Senator, however. What a lousy choice we had in 2008 - him or the socialist America-loathing Obama. If those two represent the future of America, you better hang on for some very ugly times.

UK just accepted a $20B loan from EU which requires them to go with the PIGS plan of cutting spending (and their tax base) in exchange for new money. Other choice is mother Russia where the av. salary for most is $900 a month. Pick your poison

Hope Putin doesn't get the itch to reclaim Alaska. Weak, Invertebrate Obama would do little more than serve him a pretty speech to protest.

I see Sarah Palin is now the intellectual leader of the conservative movement. It's a sad time to be a reasonable conservative in this country.

I heard Putin had his eye on Toledo but that could be just me hearing things according to my therapist.

They should put on the theater VP Cheney did in 08 when he , with Russian troops "occupying" 2 Russian speaking areas in Georgia, flew to the Georgia capital in chaos promising them economic, military aid and Starbucks.

Those 2 Russian speaking areas have since declared their independence from Georgia, Russian troops still there ,Georgia is still around.World did not end . Back to the Ukraine available 24/7 on all channels

I very much doubt Putin would invade further parts of Ukraine, unless the government of the Ukraine does something very stupid -- such as trying ethnic cleansing in the east.

Which they would almost certainly never do because they would become an isolated, international pariah.

They already banned the use of Russian in all government functions.

Not to worry - once the energy price increases hit, and the self-appointed Ukrainian government becomes a debt slave to the IMF, the secular fighting will really begin in that country that was created by outside forces drawing lines on a map.

Those crazy 1991 borders of Ukraine never did make sense as the borders of a unitary nation. The Ukrainians and Russians have grown to hate one another. Well, at least the recent Russian re-annexation of the Crimea was achieved with low casualties.

A possibly long waiting game might be starting. Russia is ready to go into other parts of eastern Ukraine now or perhaps twelve months from now, depending upon how Ukraine treats the remaining Russian minority there. Russia is waiting to see if Ukraine makes a provocation. I am afraid the Ukrainians might do just that.

Indeed, the more extremist crazies among the Ukrainians (the Right Sector) are trying to take over in Kiev.

And here in the US, conservative Republicans are trying to goad our president into further actions against Russia--such idiocy! A true fiscal conservative and true social conservative sees the value of keeping the world at peace.
