Sixth restaurant chain files for bankruptcy in March

  • Johnny Carino's is the sixth restaurant concept to file for bankruptcy in the last month.
  • The chain of Italian restaurants saw comparable-store sales declines of 20% over January and February.
  • Carino's is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fired Up Restaurant Concepts.

    Or the terrible food. Bacon mac and cheese and the 'italian nachos' doesn't exactly scream authentic italian.

    It's a chain for consumers who demand bland, non-offensive, easy-to-chew. They have their demographic, which is shrinking all the time as Americans become more cosmopolitan and develop a taste for better slop than the Olive Garden.

     

    Johnny Carino's is my MIL's favorite place. She thinks their shrimp scampi (or whatever their equivalent is) is too salty, so they dilute her sauce with water. Now whenever she comes in, they do this for her automatically and she loves it and tips them 25% for it. Ugh.

    Different folks have different tastes... I hate brussel sprouts, yet my wife loves them - go figure.

     

    FWIW, and IMHO, Olive Garden is okay. I can do better at home, but I wouldn't call what they serve 'slop'.

    Never been to Johnny Carino's but I got the impression that it was sort of up-scale or atleast in the expensive side... it's my in-laws' favorite place and they're pretty high class

    Well, if you go by today's upside down logic in the propaganda machine, restaurant's and the economy in general will do great when minimum wage is increased to a career-for-life wage.

    Hey i live by the one in Brentwood Ca and i swear i get emails everyday for free stuff or "Come on in from March 31-April 5th and have Prime Rim for $10.99 with all the fixins"
    Then we we go there the service is awful. the food ok service sucks!
    they also have $2 beers at the bar all the time thats a plus but dam you cant put a price on service. our appatizers came with our Entree. WTF

    Does anyone do any research before they just jump in with their partisan political agenda? You wouldn't want to confuse reality with your bias, would you?

     

    Fact is that the restaurant chain business, overall, is doing quite well.

     

    These bankruptcies are not resultant from the economy. They are the result of bad business decisions and bad business plans and bad execution. Let's face it, not all entrepreneurs succeed. That is the "other side" of capitalism.

    I dont see the media or Joe/Jane Public raging on at the real reason Restaurants are going bust

     

    Rampant inflation of food commodities.
    The misguided, dumb Ethanol programme has much to do with this

    There's getting to be less and less room in the mid-market for most everything, not just eateries. As noted previously, service is the key. But to pay for good employees, you can't scrimp on the food. And you can't get good employees if the service stinks and people stay away or tip lightly in response.

    Yeah I know right Damn those people for wanting enough money to put food on the table or a roof over there heads, but they should get a education or career school I bet they can pay for that with $ 7.25 hr
