Tough times for Mattel

Mattel (MAT) saw sales in North America fall 2% in Q1 amid a "challenging" retail environment. Global sales were off 7% during the period.

The company's gross profit rate fell 330 bps to 50.9%.

Brand sales growth: Barbie -14%; Hot Wheels +2%; Fisher-Price -6%; American Girl +5%.
