Samsung spews products like there's no tomorrow. But they're not well thought out.

Amazon throws things at the wall to see what sticks.

Apple designs a handful of very thoughtfully designed and engineered products, introduces them occasionally and properly, and they sell to the customers who are most demanding.

$46 billion in sales in a QUARTER.

    On a handful of products.

Who else has pulled that off?

my favorite comment regarding the iPhone was one poster on here told the story of how he tried to buy his daughter a Galaxy and she threw it at him and thanked him for ruining her life.

    Sad, disgusting, but true.

Are you really surprised that a company with 160 billion in cash and 35 billion/year in free cash flow finds ways to return value to share holders?

Did you really think a stock that rode exuberant excess to $700 did not then overshoot on the downside?

Well, never mind that...Apple is doomed.

What are you talking about, Blair was spot on, he said Apple was going to trade below $200s share and here we are virtually guaranteed it's going to trade at around $80 per share by June. The man is clearly prescient but doesn't grasp the concept of split adjusted share prices.

Pretty good since I first bought 4-5 years ago under $200. And then doubled up when prices dropped below $400 last year. Timing is everything. So I guess I should thank all the relentless bears and the Wall Street analysts who believed them.

I find it terribly amusing that trading is supposed to be halted because we're making too much money after hours. Most of the time when you see that term it means disaster, but I suppose it kind of is for the shorts.

Then again, Google continues to provide share price updates, so what's the deal? Right now it seems we're up about 37 bucks a share.

Now, if only AAPL can greatly increase their FLASH storage range on a new iPad offering... I'm already in waiting to replace my old Motorola phone with an iPhone 6 if it has a larger screen area, and a solid reason to upgrade from my iPad 1 with 64 GB FLASH would put me in the queue for two purchases. Actually, the cylindrical MAC Pro is looking pretty good, especially after recently wasting a lot of time to remove malware from my MS OS computers.

There was an article from someone that said buy Apple because it was a safe low beta growth play. I don't see how a stock that can go up/down after an earnings report by 40 bucks can be considered a "safe" stock.

That 7:1 split that goes into effect in June I think is a game changer for Apple. Good or bad I think Apple at less than 100 bucks is no longer a momentum stock.

The stock market is all about percentages. Just saying that a stock goes up or down $40 is meaningless. $40 in relation to what? For a sub-$100 stock, $40 would be huge. For Apple, today, it was only 7%. For BRK.A, it would be negligible.

I don't think the split matters much. All it means is that there are 7x as many shares at 1/7 the price. The value remains exactly the same. It might mean that people who balk at paying $500+ per share will feel more attracted to AAPL at $70 to $80; this might lead to the price going up a bit after the split takes effect on June 9.

I'm an investment noob. So question, doesn't a 1% dividend seems a little low ($3 dividend on a $530 stock). I'm not going to argue with the few bucks that affords me, but still seems low compared to other companies that have paid me a $3 dividend on a $40 stock.

Apple does *everything* right. The one thing I could do without is that stock split. Scads of people who don't understand between stock price and stock value might now buy Apple thinking it's become cheaper, sending the P/E ratio through the roof, basically forcing you to sell when you don't want to.

Other than that - nice looooong position here!

I find it very amusing that the SA contributor whose name should not be mentioned is being crushed in these few comments section. Last year he accused MARCAP of running an one man operation of badmouthing Research in Motion. Now he is doing just the same to Apple.

We should accept that Apple always run on its schedule. They know much better about their market than any Wall Street analysts and especially bloggers and commentators at financial websites. If you don't like the way Tim Cook conducts business, sell the stock and even short it big time. We'll see who win in three to five years. But don't run a smear campaign. That makes me suspicious whether the writer is on Samsung payroll.

Why so many people here find it necessary to point at someone when they're wrong? Oh, I get it, it's the feeling of investment validation laced with narcissism. When you make a prediction, you are vulnerable to what occurs after, whether it plays out the way you predict or not, particularly in the investment world. The most important aspect of making a forwarding looking statement is articulating your reasons in a clear coherent manner.

Why not make your own predictions public so that others can make a record of where you stand, otherwise enjoy your gains like a decent human being and leave the afterschool playground antics back in 5th grade.

I don't own AAPL, and probably never will, but I do "own" some AAPL, thanks to a position in CRUS.

Apple did well! Slump in iPad sales should be communicating something.
Apple still needs a new product to not become a Microsoft or Intel - solid but don't expect growth company. The I6 phone will keep things moving along at modest growth ... then growth stagnates.

Is there a category for "beating expectations when the expectation is that you're going to miss?" Because that's what's happened here. Not only has Apple trounced expectations, they did it for a quarter when many observers were fully expecting a miss.

APPL is my largest holding; started buying at $540 on the way down from $700 (too soon) and adding as it dropped and started back up again. This feels overdue, so we'll celebrate tonight a bit.

That might be the plan behind the 7:1 split. The good thing is that if it joins DOW, index tracking ETFs and other funds will be forced to buy Apple stock by definition, which is an additional boost to stock price.

Best thing for Apple shareholders---next week we will finish the first 1/3 of Q3. And Q4 is very rapidly approaching.
