Negative comps at Noodles in Q1, shares -5.5%

  • Noodles (NDLS) reports a 1.6% drop in comparable restaurant sales in Q1.
  • The company also saw a 130 bp fall in restaurant level operating margin to 17.3%. Highest costs tied to harsh winter weather and the light average unit volume were factors.
  • For 2014, Noodles sees comp sales growth of 2.5% to 3.0%.

    All of this was already addressed by management. They warned that the weather would affect Q1 numbers across the board. I see this as a short-term hiccup, providing a solid buying point for long term investors.
