Serge Marchionne throws out some big numbers

Fiat (FIATY) CEO Serge Marchionne thinks it will take three years for shareholders to reap some of the benefits of the company's five-year plan.

The large investment by Fiat in launching the Jeep brand in new markets and revitalizing Alfa Romeo will take at least that long to pay off.

The figures Marchionne has scratched onto his napkin are pretty gaudy. The exec sees the automaker hitting global vehicle sales of 7M units a year by 2018 and net cash generation of €4.5B beginning in 2017

Serge is beginning to sound like a US politician.

Not really, Sergio has a plan and will admit to making mistakes, that's very unlike a politician.

I agree, my comment was more towards the first bullet point. The pols are always pushing things back after the next election. I added shares today looks like for the long term. I hope he sees it through. Three years from now a Ferrari would look good in the drive.

Sergio is a very optimistic fellow, but he's followed through so far, so who knows he may pull it off, Nice price point to buy in, but I'm all bought out.

Yep I back Sergio to see this through. He's done a tremendous job so far on what had looked a hopeless case a few years ago.The U.S. market tends to look very short-term but he's definitely someone who works on long-term plans, which i guess you need to do in the car industry.Chrysler,Ferrari and Maserati all look in great shape,Alfa Romeo needs an overhaul, whilst Fiat has some plus points and some minus points.
