No clear lift from McDonald's coffee promotion

A flat April comp number by McDonald's (MCD -0.2%) in the U.S. is drawing the attention of retail analysts who were looking for a bit more.

The company ran a free coffee promotion during the month aimed at stealing the thunder away from Taco Bell's breakfast launch.

Though a margin pinch was anticipated as a result of the promotion, increased traffic was expected to boost supplemental breakfast sales.

The closest business center, to our home, has in one viewing, a MCD, Taco Bell, Arby's, KFC, Wendy's and a place I can't identify, but looks like Mexican; the cars are lined up at MCD, almost constantly, whereas no matter the time of day, the others have ample parking for employees and rarely a line of cars. I'll just keep on buying MCD on any weakness :o)
I don't count calories, but note that the MCD food is TASTY : AH, TASTY, that's why it works.
