Duke Energy (DUK) plans to invest a total of $1.86B on three major construction projects in Florida.
The utility intends to build a $1.5B 1,640-megawatt combined-cycle natural gas plant in Citrus County, with the project set to create 600-700 jobs at the height of construction.
Duke also plans to spend $197M on two simple-cycle combustion turbine generators at the Suwannee Plant near Live Oak, and $160M on new equipment at the Hines Energy Complex near Bartow.
In addition, Duke will retire two coal-fired units at the Crystal River Energy Complex, due to changing federal environmental regulations. (PR)
