Pinterest valued at $5B despite generating little revenue

Pinterest has raised $200M from existing investors at a valuation of $5B even though the online scrapbooking site has only recently started selling ads and generates little revenue.

However, early advertisers such as online retailer Wayfair have found that Pinterest users are more valuable over time.

The company's fundraising comes after it attracted $225M in October, when it was valued at $3.8B. Overall, Pinterest has brought in $764M from the likes of SV Angel, Bessemer Venture Partners, Fidelity Investments, Andreessen Horowitz, FirstMark Capital and Valiant Capital Partners.
